Hello Curlers,

Leagues start this Thursday, October 12! The ice installation is in it’s final phases and we are looking forward to seeing everyone over the next couple weeks.

Practice ice is now available! This week the ice will be available on a drop-in basis the following days:

Wednesday: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Friday: 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM

Sunday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Come on by to practice at your convenience – just please be mindful of others and keep your session to one hour.

Moving forward, practice ice will be available most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM. You can book one week in advance by contacting me by phone or email.

A couple notes from our ice team as we move in to the season…

Please remove the hacks at the opposite end when practicing so a rock doesn’t hit them and take them out if you have nobody to stand at the other end to stop the rocks. If this happens it can take hours to repair.

We have done a light sharpen on the stones. They will be more aggressive to begin with, but we should see them calm down over the coming weeks. You will want to make sure that you have a very positive turn on the stone when you release it.

We have replaced the dividers and the painted boards along sheet 6 (the boards along sheet 1 will be addressed after this season). Even though they are new, they still need to break in, so there may be some loose particles that may fall off, especially if people stand and move around on them. The center divider has also been replaced and we did coat the top with something to help with the traction. Please be mindful that this area may be more slippery than the old boards.

FLIES – We have had an unusually high number of flies in the curling rink this season during install and this could continue until we see some sustained colder weather. We will do our best to clean them up before your draws, but there is a good chance you’ll see some fall during your game.
A reminder no food or drinks (other then water) in the curling rink. There is a shelf outside of the door for your other beverages.

Finally, please remember to register and pay your dues for the season. I will be on site to assist with registrations on league start dates, but please complete this in advance if possible!

As a reminder, October 21 is our Welcome Back Party from 3:00PM-6:00PM – see you there!

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Warmly,
Dana Prior
