We just wanted to update everyone on the upcoming events, socials, what came down the pipe to do with spares, some unwritten curling courtesies website info and a few reminders.

Business first:
Spares, 5th & 6th players

We have been informed by the club that all spares, 5th & 6th players must have 4 fees paid up in order to play at Inglewood. (Please note if you are registered in another league at Inglewood you can spare in any league without paying the following fees for spares because you have already paid them).

The first 2 fees are to Canada and Alberta for insurance (total $17.00). This insurance is paid once a year and enables you to curl anywhere in Alberta for the 24/25 season. If these fees have been paid through any other Alberta curling club, they are valid at Inglewood also and do not have to be paid again. The 3rd fee is directed to Inglewood for improvement fees ($52.50). The 4th fee is Inglewood membership fee (52.50 if you are under 60.00 or 36.75 if you are 60+)

Once these fees are paid a spare can play in any league at Inglewood.

Spares that have paid their fees and are available can be found on the list that Elaine has sent out and also on the Inglewood website. We are enlisting each person to find their own spares this year and ensure that they are within the guidelines above (as per fees). Please let your skip know with as much advance notice as possible who will be taking your place….so exchange numbers as a team for better communication.

If there is an emergency and you grab someone off the street at the last minute to take your place Inglewood will allow that, as long as it is not a reoccurring event. They must sign a waiver prior to playing, they are located on the bulletin board at the end of the hall going to the rink. Please give the signed waiver to Elaine.

Reminder: Spares must throw lead or second rocks.

Okay enough of that serious stuff…

Up-coming social events

1) Nov 20th we are going to get to know each other better by introducing ourselves and play a little game. Be prepared with 1 lie and 1 truth about yourself that people may not know about you.

2) Save the date on Dec 14. We are in the process of finding a fun place with music and maybe a little dancing for all of us and our significant others to mingle and shake a leg. Details will be announced soon. (this event is a pay as you go not included in our social club fees)

3) On our last 2024 curling night, Wednesday Dec 18, we will be curling 6 ends. These ends will be entertainment only and will not count towards the year’s scores. Dig out your ugly sweaters and throw them on this night! After curling we will be doing a mingle night with some appetizers.

4) Valentines Day wear pink/red more details later.

5) Year-end our last day of curling we will have appetizers, prizes for aggregate, first prize in A, B, & C, and last place

4) We usually schedule a golf/camping trip middle of June, details will come before our last game. This event is also a pay as you go event not included in social club fees.

It’s going to be a great season!

Reminder to all curlers:

1) After you throw the rock make sure you get up right away. When your knee or other body parts stay on the ice, they melt the pebbling ever so slightly…. but over time this can affect the ice and game.

2) After you throw the rock, you can watch the line, but please step aside as soon as possible. This allows the next player to prepare unobstructed and the game to keep pace.

3) Players sweeping, please keep to the sides of the sheet on your return from the far end back to sweep the next rock, this helps the person in the hack to be able to see the broom in order to throw their rock.

4) Since we have had 2 concussions already this year, please be careful, or better yet purchase a curling hat with padding…we need all the brains cells we have left!!

5) When you come up to the restaurant after the game, please grab a table for eight, this is so you can sit with your team and the opposing team of that night and make fun of each other. Tradition!!

6) Once the bell rings, you can finish the end you’re in and one more end only.

Everyone, please play at least 6 ends…yes, the score might be 100 to 1 and a cold beer is calling your name but the people who got the 1 could play for the practice….and the people with 100 could lend their expertise and help out the other team.

Unwritten rule; The game is not over until both skips agree that it is. We’ve had a few games lately that players have just decided to walk off…leaving their skips at the other end ready to throw…lol

Things you may not know;

The hog pot, (which you put $1 and your name into if you don’t throw the rock past the hog line, skip pay $2) is a draw at the Christmas mingle and year end, each time 100% of the money will go to that person drawn.

The $20 social fee and proceeds from the weekly card draw go towards food at Christmas, year-end prizes, games and next year’s deposit to Inglewood and website domain.

We also have a web page just for Hot Shots with schedules, standings, pictures and lots of info https://hotshotscurlingclub.com/

Okay, I think that’s all we have for now. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thanks everyone!!
Elaine
