Hello Curling Members,

We are off to a very successful start to the 2022/2023 curling season. We hope that you have
enjoyed getting back on the ice, seeing your team mates and socializing with out any
restrictions during the first 2 weeks of the curling season.

We took some extra time this season for the installation of the curling ice to address some issues
with our floor on sheets 4, 5 & 6. We are confident that this extra time will result in improved,
consistent ice conditions on all 6 sheets.

You may have noticed quite a bit of curl during your first few games. Our rock maintenance
schedule included “papering”/ “sharpening” of the curling rocks – Papering / sharpening, as
it’s referred to, is the process of sanding the bottom of the smooth granite to roughen it up so it
grabs the pebbled ice and increases the curl.

The aggressive curl will start to subside with the amount of play each week and will result in a
slight increase in the speed of the of the rock as it moves down the ice.

Lights –we apologise for the poor lighting conditions we currently have. Unfortunately, we can
no longer get the LED lights to fit our lighting system, so replacement bulbs have been
impossible to find. We think we have finally located a supplier with inventory, and we should
have the lighting fixed as soon as possible.
